Beware of dragons — they kill slowly. They’ll encircle you slowly, and bite you little by little until you bleed to death. --YNOT!
People talk about dragons like they’re fairy-tale creatures, hiding in caves and breathing cinematic fire. But the real dragons don’t live in mountains. They live inside us — stitched from ambition, restlessness, pride, and the stubborn belief that if we just push a little harder, life will finally give up its secret treasure.
Most folks chase these dragons without even realizing it. They waste years trying to impress people who won’t remember their names, or chasing careers that don’t fill the hollowness in their chest. They sprint toward dreams that don’t fit their soul, hoping the speed alone will make them meaningful.
But you know what? I understand those people. I was one of them.
I’ve always had a weakness for the immovable monster, the unreachable goal, the impossible dream.
The song itself — The Impossible Dream — was practically stitched into my DNA. When I was young, I dared. I chased. And most times, I caught what I shouldn’t have been able to reach. Luck? Maybe. Willpower? Definitely. Stupidity? Probably.
And no matter how far or improbable, I made it happen — at all cost.
But that’s the part nobody advertises.
The cost.
It’s funny how the world cheers the dragon slayer but never counts the scars under the armor. I used to call myself exactly that — the dragon slayer. The guy who ran toward the monster when everyone else stepped back. The one who believed obstacles existed for the pleasure of defeating them.
Today?
I’m more like the dragon hiding in the shadow of the trees, hoping the world walks past quietly. You chase enough monsters and one day you wake up realizing maybe the monster was you — or worse, the chase itself.
So when you find yourself reaching for that impossible dream, I’m not here to stop you. Dreams are oxygen to some people. They keep the blood warm.
But listen carefully: there is a cost.
Be ready to pay it.
And for heaven’s sake, only chase one dragon at a time.
Otherwise they surround you, and there’s no sword sharp enough to save you from that.
The secret nobody teaches is that life isn’t about conquering every dragon. It’s about choosing the right one — the one that deserves your scars, your years, and your courage.
And knowing when to stop.
The Impossible Dream
(as requested, placed at the end)
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To be better far than you are
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest, to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To be willing to give when there’s no more to give
To be willing to die so that honor and justice may live
And I know if I’ll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I’m laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star.
