Now I don’t know much about quantum physics or whatever algorithms run Wall Street these days, but I do know human beings. And one thing I’ve learned in my time walking this crooked, beautiful world is that time—not talent, not luck, not money—is the greatest clarifier of all.
I call it the Three-Day Rule, and let me tell you, it’s worth its weight in gold.
The stock market crashes.
Your girlfriend leaves you.
Your business partner tells you you’re broke.
Your best client walks away.
That big deal you’ve been working on? Radio silence. You meet someone new who lights a fire under you—but you’re not sure whether it’s chemistry or chaos.
What do all of these things have in common?
Give it three days.
Because here’s the truth: when something hits you hard—be it love, loss, or the Dow Jones—you are the worst possible person to decide what to do next. You’re too close. Your mind is noisy. Your heart is flailing. And your vision? It’s fogged up by fear, pride, hope, or all of the above.
You are thinking of buying a car, stock, house, anything… Give it three days. Take the emotions out of your thought process.
Reacting immediately might feel strong, but it’s often the opposite. You look desperate in a negotiation. You miss opportunities in business. And you let someone else’s storm knock you off your course.
Three days is 72 hours for your brain to cool off, for the markets to settle, for the truth to reveal itself. It’s enough time to see if that hot new date is actually just clingy crazy. Or if that big financial loss wasn’t the end of the road, but a detour with a better view.
I’m not saying wait forever. I’m saying wait long enough to see clearly.
Take yesterday’s market crash—everyone’s screaming to buy, sell, run, fight. But here’s my advice: don’t do a damn thing. It’s Friday. Let the weekend pass. Let Monday pass. Come Tuesday, then we’ll talk. But not before.
Patience is power.
Perspective is profit.
And clarity only comes with time.
So next time the world feels like it’s falling apart, don’t jump.
Sit still. Breathe. Wait.
Three days. That’s all.
